| The City of Orinda Applies for a Silver LEED® Certification |
The City of Orinda has
a new environmentally savvy home! The Police Department,
Administration, Planning, Public Works and the County
Building Department moved into their
new facility in
August 2007. Leadership in Energy & Environmental
Design (LEED®) is a national benchmarking system
put into place by the US Green Building Council. It
is rapidly becoming a measurable standard of building
practice, using sustainable sites, water efficiency,
materials & resources, indoor environmental quality,
energy & atmosphere as well as design innovation
to create high performing 'green' buildings
that also reduce, reuse & recycle typical construction
waste.
The highest rating is Platinum, then Gold, followed by Silver. Many buildings are built with the LEED® standards in mind, but often the time and cost hamper efforts. Orinda is applying for a Silver rating, however the review process can take up to four months.
