The Chain of Lakes projects are one of many that are being built to help maintain the reliability of Zone 7’s water supplies in case of unplanned outages or droughts affecting surface water imports from the State Water Project. This project includes increasing the capacity from 30.6 mgd to 38 mgd; constructing new facilities to act has the system communications hub; and includes SCADA controls with both soft motor starts and VFDs. Well No.1 pump station will process 2,500 gpm or 3.6 mgd with sodium hypochorite/ ammonia chemical storage and injection system (400 HP motor). Well No. 2 pump station will process 3,500 gpm or 5.0 mgd (600 hp motor). Work also includes piping to Well Site No. 5 to discharge to the new El Charro trunk line, which is a separate project about a mile of the new 36- inch trunk line which included jack and bore beneath the Arroyo Mocho.
