Wastewater Facility Upgrade – Treatment Plant Improvements

Novato Sanitary District
Project Type:
Designer:
RMC Water and Environment
Contractor:
Monterey Mechanical
Construction Cost:
$67 million

This project consists of four construction contracts. A new 2.5 mgd, $6.6 million, pump station using submersible sewage pumps was constructed at the Ignacio Treatment Plant. A $4.4 million force main pipeline was constructed to connect the new pump station to the District’s new treatment plant located on Davidson street. The force main included 11,000 feet of 10”/16” HDPE and PVC pipeline with a 2,000 foot horizontal directional drill under Novato Creek and two bore and jack operations. A pre-load site improvement project was completed prior to the new treatment plant project. The $67 million Novato Treatment Plant Improvement Project is a new 7.0 mgd treatment facility constructed at the site of the existing operating treatment plant; facilities include new headworks, primary clarifiers, aeration basins, secondary clarifiers, UV disinfection, GBT and digester. Covello also contributed to the biddability/constructability reviews, procurement package development, value engineering, front-end specification development, project schedules, and opinion of probable construction cost.

The ribbon cutting ceremony for this Project will be held on October 26, 2010!

Key Project Features:
  • The treatment process includes Ultraviolet Disinfection.
  • The old facility had to maintain normal operations while the new facility was being constructed on-site.
