Wastewater Facility Upgrade – Ignacio Conveyance Force Main

Novato Sanitary District
Project Type:
Designer:
RMC Water and Environment, Winzler & Kelly
Contractor:
Ghilotti Construction Company
Construction Cost:
$4.4 million

The project installed 11,000 linear feet of 16-inch diameter force main pipe and 4-inch diameter fiber optic conduit to convey raw sewage received at the new transfer pump station, then transported to the new wastewater treatment facility. The tie-in of the new pipeline to the existing collection and conveyance pipelines required construction of transition and junction structures and a series of temporary by-pass pumping arrangements. The pipeline crosses through pasture land, under Highway 37 and the adjacent railroad tracks, down city streets, and under Novato Creek.

Key Project Features:
  • The segment under Novato Creek required a 2,000 linear feet horizontal direction drill installation.
  • The segments under Highway 37 and the railroad required separate bore-and-jack installations of 715 linear feet and 180 linear feet.
