Export Pipeline - Castro Valley/Lewelling Segment

Livermore Amador Valley Water Management Agency
Project Type:
Designer:
Brown & Caldwell
Contractor:
Mountain Cascade
Construction Cost:
$33.0 million

This project consisted of installing approximately 41,000 lineal feet of 36-inch diameter pipeline. The pipe materials included the following: 1) Welded steel, mortar lined; 2) High Density Polyethylene (HDPE); and 3) Reinforced Concrete Cylinder Pipe (RCCP). The pipeline traversed busy thoroughfares, residential neighborhoods, and business districts and ultimately ties into the existing pipeline at San Francisco Bay. Approximately 40% of the pipeline was installed by microtunneling and 60% by open cut construction. The project also included demolishing and reconstructing an existing Emergency Dechlorination Facility. The final phase of construction included the abandonment of approximately 40,000 lineal feet of the existing pipeline in place by pumping the empty pipe full of cement grout.
